History

The Twelve Healers & Other Remedies – book by Edward Bach: “The mind being the most delicate and sensitive part of the body, shows the onset and the course of disease much more definitely than the body, so that the outlook of mind is chosen as the guide as to which remedy or remedies are necessary. Take no notice of the disease, think only of the outlook on life of the one in distress.”

Edward Bach was indeed a British medical doctor, bacteriologist, and spiritual writer, and he is best known for his development of the Bach flower remedies. The Bach flower remedies are a system of 38 flower essences that are used as a form of alternative medicine to promote emotional well-being and address imbalances in the mind and emotions.

Born on September 24, 1886, in Moseley, Birmingham, England, Bach studied medicine at the University College Hospital, London, and earned a Diploma of Public Health (DPH). He had a successful career in conventional medicine and bacteriology before turning his focus to the holistic approach of healing through flower essences.

In 1917, Bach faced a life-threatening situation when he had a malignant tumor removed from his body. Despite predictions that he had only three months left to live, he unexpectedly recovered. This transformative experience influenced his shift towards alternative and holistic healing methods.

Edward Bach passed away in his sleep on November 27, 1936, in Wallingford, Berkshire, at the age of 50. During the 1930s, he spent time in the Norfolk coastal town of Cromer, where he designed many of the Bach Flower remedies. The last house he lived in, located in Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, Oxfordshire, is now privately owned by the Ramsell family.

Bach’s legacy lives on through the continued use and popularity of Bach Flower remedies, which are believed to address emotional and mental aspects of health by harmonizing and balancing the individual’s emotional state.
